Cristiano Ronaldo Reveals Why he Signed For Juventus At Unveiling In Turin
5-time Ballon d'Or winner, Cristiano
Ronaldo, on Monday night, declared himself the new Special One of
football as he vowed to go on and on at the very highest level after
sealing a £100million transfer from Real Madrid to Juventus.
The 33-year-old Portugal international was unveiled by the Serie A
club after passing a medical earlier in the day. Here are his words
during the press conference as published by Juventus FC.
Why I Joined Juventus
"It was an easy decision considering how big Juventus are; they are
the best team in Italy, have a great coach, a great president and a
team well used to winning. I did not take the decision to join Juventus
after the Champions League final, though.
"For me this is not a step backwards. Playing for Juve is a step
forward for my career. I'm very honoured that Juve decided to sign me
and I want to lift them to an even higher level. I have always wanted to
be an example on and off the pitch and I want to continue to that. I
want to work hard and help Juve win trophies, and the team will help me
in order to win together.

"The standing ovation by the Juve fans after my overhead-kick in
Turin last season was a great moment for me. I'm very grateful for their
reaction and also for the welcome today. There is great enthusiasm and I
just hope to repay them on the pitch."
Why I'm Not Nere Nor a Holiday
"I did not come here for a holiday: I want to leave an important
mark in the history of Juventus. I always want to win trophies and be
the best. I never thought about winning the Ballon d’Or five times but
maybe I can win more here at Juve, why not? It's not something that is
troubling my sleep, though.
"I know that every team wants to win the Champions League. There is
a chance, but we will fight for all trophies. We must remain calm
because the Champions League is very difficult to win. Juve have gone
close a few times in recent years but finals are always unpredictable. I
hope I can help them get over the line.
"The Italian league is very difficult, tactics are very important
here. I know it will be difficult but nothing has been easy in my career
and I'm ready to work hard to succeed. I'm calm and positive because
I'm sure I will be prepared for this tough new step in my career."

Exciting New Challenge
“I’m here because it’s a brand new challenge for me. Coming to such
a big club at this stage in my career makes me very happy and I thank
Juventus for giving me this opportunity.
“I’m an ambitious player. I don’t like to stay in my comfort zone
or to sit down and look back at past achievements. I’m looking forwards
and I’m very concentrated and focused. I’m going to work hard in my
training and prove that I’m a top player again.”
Champions League Ambition
“I know that the Champions League is a trophy that every club would
like to win and Juventus is no different and they've come extremely
close in recent seasons. It’s a difficult competition to win, but I will
be doing my best to help this team be successful. I hope that I can be
the lucky star for the club.”
Ballon d’Or
“The Ballon d’Or is not something that I’m thinking about right
now. Of course, I want to win and be the best. Who knows, maybe I’ll be
rewarded again if things go well. I just want the future to take its
natural course and I’m confident that the future is bright.”

The New Season
“I had an excellent conversation with president Agnelli before
joining and today I’ve had an opportunity to meet my new team-mates and
(Massimiliano) Allegri as well.
“I’m going to start training on 30 July and I would like to play my
first match when the Serie A season begins. I can’t wait to get
started, I’m really motivated to show that I’m still a top player and
we’ll all be fighting for every trophy going.”
I've Never Been Better
"This is a new challenge but I'm well prepared for this and I'm
sure everything will go well once again. Players of my age often go to
other countries like Qatar and China, while I'm here for a big challenge
… I feel at my best both physically and mentally."
Farewell Real Madrid
"My story with Madrid was brilliant. I thank the fans but now I
must focus on my new challenge. I will try to show Italy that I'm still a
top player. The numbers are there and everybody knows what I have done
in football but I like challenges and I want to leave my mark on
Juventus' history – just as I did with United and Madrid.
"I'm still very young, and I have always liked challenge. Sporting,
Manchester United, Real Madrid – it has been a dream career so far."
