‘The Wedding Party 2’ Rakes in N73M in it’s Opening Weekend! Highest in Nigeria

Smash hit movie, ‘The Wedding Party 2 – Destination Dubai (TP2)’ has recorded over N73.3Million on its opening weekend. This was made known by the producers of the movie. The movie which premiered across the country in cinemas on Friday, 15th December.

This sets a new record forthe Nigerian box office, beating the Fast & Furious 8 opening weekend by some N20 million.

Around the world, Star Wars: The Last Jedi was breaking records too but, in Nigeria, couldn’t come close to the astounding performance by The Wedding Party 2. This monumental feat by TWP 2 is more than double the opening weekend numbers of N36 million by last year’s The Wedding Party – the highest-grossing movie in Nollywood.

Mo Abudu, CEO, EbonyLife Films, is ecstatic at the recent success of the film. “The performance of this film continues to amaze us – we are so glad audiences are choosing to support a Nigerian film when there is so much choice this holiday season,” she said.

She also took to her Instagram page to add: “What can I say, but thank you Lord. Thank you Nigeria. The Wedding Party 2: Destination Dubai now goes down as the highest opening weekend ever at the Nigerian box office for both Nollywood and international films!

“Last year we did N36m on TWP1 for our opening weekend, now we have doubled that, this is evidence that Yes We Can and we have!

“Nigeria let’s continue to break this record together, to be the highest grossing film of all time, so that we can tell the world that ‘We Can’”.

Moses Babatope, COO of FilmOne Distribution, is also excited about the movie’s opening weekend results and its potential effect on the global release. “The Wedding Party 2 has already surpassed.
